MFA of Kazakhstan: all parties agreed to participate in the talks on Syria in Nur-Sultan

All parties of the talks on Syria in the Astana format confirmed their participation in the meeting to be held in the capital of Kazakhstan on June 15-16. Aibek Smadiyarov, an official representative of Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry, told reporters on Tuesday.


"All parties to the Astana process on Syria have confirmed their participation in the talks to be held in the capital of Kazakhstan on June 15-16. Delegations from the guarantor states - Russia, Turkey and Iran, as well as the Syrian government and the Syrian armed opposition - will take part," Smadiyarov said.


According to him, the Russian delegation will be headed by Alexander Lavrentyev, Special Representative of the Russian President for Syria, and Turkey will be represented by Selcuk Unal, General Director of the Multilateral Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Iranian delegation will take part, headed by Ali Asghar Haji, the country's Senior Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs.


"A UN delegation led by Robert Dunn, Chief Political Affairs Officer of the Office of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Syria, a delegation from Jordan, representatives of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Committee of the Red Cross will participate in the meeting as observers," the foreign ministry representative explained.


The day before the event, representatives of the guarantor countries intend to hold bilateral and trilateral consultations at the level of experts. A plenary session with the participation of all parties is scheduled for June 16.
