Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Russia isn’t currently on President Vladimir Putin’s schedule for the remainder of the year, but preparations are ongoing as Moscow and Tehran aim to finalize the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
“The two sides are keen to avoid delaying the signing [of the agreement],” Peskov said. However, he noted, “At this point, there’s no firm plan for the visit to take place before the year’s end.” He reiterated, “It’s not on the schedule right now.”
Peskov explained that such meetings can be arranged quickly if necessary. “The visit is being prepared, and the groundwork is ongoing,” he added.
In late October, Yuri Ushakov, an aide to President Putin, said that Pezeshkian might travel to Russia before the end of the year to sign the agreement, with the exact timing still being finalized. Ushakov expressed confidence that the two sides would find a suitable window in the leaders’ schedules, emphasizing the importance of the agreement.
On December 2, Peskov expressed doubts whether the visit would take place before the year’s end.
On Monday, Pezeshkian spoke with Putin by phone, during which the two leaders outlined a plan for further engagements.
