Russian and American diplomats will meet in Istanbul on February 27 to discuss issues related to the operation of their respective embassies, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced.
“This meeting will take place tomorrow in Istanbul,” Lavrov stated during a press conference following his visit to Qatar.
The minister emphasized that high-level diplomats and experts from both sides will address systemic issues that have arisen due to what he described as the previous US administration’s unlawful actions, which created artificial obstacles for the Russian embassy. In response, Moscow imposed reciprocal measures, making conditions difficult for US diplomatic staff in Moscow.
Lavrov clarified that the issue of frozen Russian assets is not related to the embassy discussions, as it is a state-level matter.
The minister expressed hope that the Istanbul meeting would clarify how quickly and effectively both sides can move forward.
Previously, Lavrov mentioned that two preliminary technical discussions on this issue had already taken place.
