Russian Deputy Foreign Minister discussed the situation in Libya with representatives of the Libyan movement

Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed with representatives of the Saif al-Islam Gaddafi Movement Moftah Werfalli and Omar Abu-Ishraidah the situation in and around Libya, as well as the prospects for national elections in the country.


"During the conversation, there was an in-depth exchange of views on the emerging situation in and around Libya in the context of the election on February 5 this year within the framework of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum under the auspices of the UN of the new composition of the Presidential Council, as well as the problems of approval by the Libyan parliament of the composition of the Government of National Unity for the transitional period. They also discussed the prospects for constitutional reform in the country and the national elections scheduled for December 24, 2021," the message of the Russian Foreign Ministry reads.


It was pointed out that the Russian side stressed that there was no alternative to a political settlement of the Libyan crisis within the framework of an inclusive process "involving all leading political forces of the country, including supporters of the former ruling regime in the Libyan Jamahiriya."
