Russian Diplomats in Kazakhstan Honor Siege of Leningrad Survivor with Victory Medal

31 March

Russian diplomats from the Consulate General in Uralsk, Kazakhstan, have awarded a jubilee medal marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941–1945) to the survivor of the Leningrad siege  Lyudmila Karadzhan, the Russian House in Uralsk reported.

The medal was presented by members of the Russian Ethnocultural Association, recognizing her resilience and contribution during the war.

“In April, Lyudmila Alekseevna will celebrate her 91st birthday. Unfortunately, her health has been declining with age. It is crucial to remember those who endured the horrors of war and witnessed history firsthand,” noted the Russian House.

Born in 1934, Karadzhan lived through the Leningrad blockade during the Great Patriotic War. In a 2014 interview, she recalled the extreme hunger she suffered as a child in the besieged city. She also described how she and other children collected empty bottles, which were then sent to factories to produce Molotov cocktails for the frontlines.
