The S-500 Prometey will have the ability to destroy hypersonic weapons in near-earth space, commander-in-chief of the Aerospace forces (VKS) Sergey Surovikin said Krasnaya Zvezda.
Earlier, Pavel Sozinov, General designer of the Almaz-Antey developer concern, said that the S-500 could intercept targets hundreds of kilometers from the Earth.
According to Surovikin, the technical characteristics of the S-500 allow us to refer this complex to the first generation of anti-space defense systems.
"The characteristics inherent in the S-500 AMS make it possible to destroy, in addition to aerodynamic and ballistic targets, hypersonic weapons of all modifications, including in near space," the commander-in-chief said.
He also expressed confidence that there were no analogs of this system in principle.
The S-500 Prometey (55R6M "Triumfator-M") is a new generation of ground-to-air missile systems. It is a universal complex of long-range and high-altitude interception with an increased missile defense potential. The advanced system is capable of destroying not only ballistic, but also aerodynamic targets (aircraft, helicopters), as well as cruise missiles.
The commander-in-chief of the aerospace forces also said that Russia would create a single space system by 2024, and this would allow global control of the surface of the globe.
The system consists of spacecraft flying in low-earth orbit. It will increase the resistance of the combat control system to interference.
In September of this year, tests of the space communications complex with the Blagovest spacecraft are due to end. In 2022, it is planned to start deploying a promising Unified satellite communications system of the third stage of the Russian Armed forces, and in 2023, the deployment of a high-orbit space reconnaissance system will begin.
According to him, in the interests of the Aerospace forces, a unified command and measurement system "Topaz" is being created, which will allow controlling spacecraft in all types of orbits.
A new radar complex "Niobium" will be created for the radio engineering troops from modern components. Today, the Nebo-M complex is in service. Niobium will be able to detect hypersonic aircraft, and it will detect conventional vehicles at a greater distance than Nebo-M.
