Afghan authorities have issued over 3,000 passports to members of terrorist organizations. This assessment was made on Wednesday by Minister of Interior of Tajikistan Ramazon Rahimzoda, speaking in Dushanbe at a high-level conference on international and regional cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
"More than 3,000 Afghan citizen passports have already been issued to members of terrorist organizations, which once again confirms the danger of this regime," he said.
The minister noted that the trend of military and political escalation in Afghanistan poses a direct threat not only to Central Asian countries, but also on a broader scale. The Afghan problem must be a focus of continuous attention," Rahimzoda said.
The conference in Dushanbe was co-organised by the UN Office for Counter-Terrorism, the government of Tajikistan, the Regional centre for preventive diplomacy for Central Asia, the OSCE and the EU.
It brings together ministers, representatives of UN member states, UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy structures, international and regional organizations, civil society institutions and border security experts. The conference will result in the adoption of the Dushanbe Declaration on border security and management to combat terrorism and prevent the movement of terrorists.
