Vladimir Putin: Russia values relations with Turkey

05 March 2020

Moscow values its relations with Ankara, Russian leader Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who arrived in Moscow on a working visit.

"We must definitely talk to you about the whole situation that has developed to date, so that nothing like this can happen: a) cannot happen again, and b) so that it does not destroy Russian-Turkish relations, which we treat, I know that you also, very carefully, and appreciate them", RIA Novosti quoted the Russian President as saying.

The main topic of the talks is the aggravation of the situation in the Syrian Idlib.

It escalated after the terrorists launched a large-scale offensive on the positions of the Syrian government troops on February 27. The SAR army returned fire, and as a result, the Turkish military was injured, who, as stated in the Russian Defense Ministry, "should not have been there".

A total of 36 Turkish soldiers were killed. The Russian Defense Ministry stressed that immediately after receiving information about the victims of the Turkish military, measures  for a complete ceasefire by Syrian troops were taken, and the safe evacuation of killed and wounded Turkish soldiers to the territory of Turkey was provided.
