Indonesia hopes to buy COVID-19 vaccine from Russia

24 July 2020

The Indonesian government hopes to purchase a Russian-made COVID-19 vaccine, the country's Ambassador to Russia Mohamad Wahid Supriyadi told RIA Novosti.

"I have heard from the media that perhaps by August or September Russia will achieve success in creating a vaccine. Of course, we really need this vaccine, because the number (of COVID-19 cases) is still growing," the Ambassador said.

He answered in the affirmative when asked whether Indonesia wants to buy a Russian-made vaccine.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that four coronavirus vaccines in Russia have proven their safety. At the moment, as Mishustin said, all Russian research institutions are working on the development of the vaccine. This includes the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of health, the FMBA and Rospotrebnadzor.
