The Second Western district military court has sentenced to life imprisonment a citizen of Tajikistan, a member of the Islamic State terrorist organization banned in Russia, Tojiddin Nazarov, found guilty of planning terrorist attacks on Russian territory, including near the Kremlin and the Federal Security Service building in Moscow in 2017, a TASS correspondent reported from the courtroom on Friday.
"The court found Nazarov guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment in a high-security colony, the first eight years with time served in prison. Also imposed a fine of 1.5 million rubles," the troika of judges announced the verdict.
On the eve of the debate the prosecutor asked Nazarov to appoint a sentence of life imprisonment in a maximum security penal colony and a fine of 1 million rubles.
Nazarov is accused of committing 23 terrorist crimes. Since 2014, he was a member of the international terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS), which is banned in Russia, and later one of its leaders. According to the prosecution, in August 2016 he created a terrorist community to conduct a bombing in Novosibirsk. He conducted recruitment and remote training of the perpetrator. The explosive device was detonated in August 2016, but did not cause any casualties. Nazarov also provided overall leadership for the Moscow and Moscow region bombing, specifically in a minibus in Lyubertsy, near Moscow. The explosive device was discovered by passengers. In July 2017, Nazarov handed over weapons and ingredients for explosives to blow up a train station at a tire repair shop in St. Petersburg. The crime was not consummated as the participants were detained by law enforcement.
In October 2017, already one of the leaders of the IS, he organized a terrorist community in Moscow through a dedicated communication channel. The target was terrorist attacks near the Federal Security Service building, near the Kremlin, as well as near the Ministry of Justice. The terrorists planned to drive a car into a group of people and then shoot citizens.
Nazarov was detained in Syria in 2019 and later extradited to Russia.
