The issue of participation of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in the conflict zone of Russia and Ukraine is not on the agenda, Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Aibek Smadiyarov said at a briefing on Monday.
"Kazakhstan proceeds from the principles of territorial integrity of states and their sovereign equality and peaceful coexistence in accordance with international law and the UN Charter. In general, the CSTO area of responsibility is clearly delineated by the internationally recognized territories of the organization's member states, and collective security is ensured within these territories. Thus, the issue of participation of the CSTO in the zone of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is not on the agenda," he said.
Referendums on becoming a part of Russia were held in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions from September 23 to 27 inclusive. The overwhelming majority of the population voted in favor of becoming a part of the Russian Federation. The ceremony of signing agreements on the regions' admission to the Russian Federation was held on September 30 in the St. George Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace.
