Kyrgyzstan has requested 500,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine from Russia, Alymkadyr Beishenaliyev, the Minister of Health of the republic, said.
"A letter was sent from the leadership of Kyrgyzstan to Russian President Vladimir Putin. We requested 500,000 doses of vaccine," Beishenaliyev said in an interview with state-run Birinchi Radio. According to him, an agreement was received from the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, "in the near future the issue will be resolved".
The head of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan reminded that the situation with the coronavirus in the republic remains difficult, and emphasized that "to return to normal life, it is necessary to be vaccinated".
Also, according to Beishenaliev, Kyrgyzstan was offered to supply 1.2 million doses of the American Pfizer vaccine, but it has to be stored at minus 70 degrees and there are no conditions for its storage in the republic. The Russian-made vaccine is stored at temperatures between -2 and -18 degrees Celsius.
The first cases of coronavirus were identified in Kyrgyzstan in March 2020. So far the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has reached 83,430. There have been 1,392 deaths.
