Pakistan's PM to Attend Farewell Ceremony for Iranian Officials Killed in Crash

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will travel to Iran to extend condolences to the Iranian people and participate in an official farewell ceremony for President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, and other Iranian officials who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash.

 

According to a press release from the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, Sharif is scheduled to visit Iran on May 22. During his visit, he will hold meetings with Iran's spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and Acting President Mohammad Mokhber.

 

On May 19, a helicopter carrying President Raisi crashed in Iran's East Azerbaijan Province. Among the passengers were Foreign Minister and Governor of East Azerbaijan Province, Malek Rahmati, Friday Imam of Tabriz, Mohammad Ali Ale Hashem, and the head of the presidential guard. All occupants of the helicopter perished in the crash. An investigation commission has been established to determine the cause of the accident.

 

Iran's extraordinary presidential election is scheduled for June 28.
