The statement asserts, "This will link the US and international community's stance condemning settler terrorism to sanctions designed to force Israel to dismantle and disarm them."
Additionally, the ministry strongly condemns "the annexation of the West Bank [of the Jordan River]," emphasizing that such actions undermine "any chance of establishing a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital." The statement contends that the surge in settler crimes underscores the inadequacy of existing solutions and sanctions imposed by certain countries. It calls for genuine international pressure on the Israeli government to disperse settlers, disarm them, and sever their sources of funding.
The ministry's stance aligns with recent international actions expressing concern over violence in the West Bank. In December 2023, the US State Department imposed visa restrictions on individuals involved in violence against civilians in the West Bank, citing a perceived lack of serious efforts by Israeli authorities to prevent such attacks. Subsequently, French authorities announced a ban on extremist Israeli settlers engaged in violence against Palestinian civilians from entering France.
