Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh the settlement of the situation in that country and expressed his readiness to continue to help move toward strengthening its sovereignty and unity. This was reported on Thursday by the Kremlin press service.
"The problems of the settlement in Libya were discussed thoroughly. Vladimir Putin welcomed the formation of central authorities in this country for a transitional period, which will have to prepare and hold national elections at the end of the year," the press service said. - "Russia's readiness to continue assisting the inter-Libyan political process in order to achieve long-term stability in Libya, strengthen its sovereignty and unity, and ensure progressive socio-economic development was noted.
In addition, it is noted that during the phone conversation Dbeibeh expressed gratitude for the delivery of a batch of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus Sputnik V to Libya. Putin, in turn, congratulated him and all the Libyan people on the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.
On February 5, at the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum in Switzerland, Dbeibeh was elected head of Libya's government. The main task of the transitional bodies will be the preparation and conduct of the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for December 24 this year.
On April 15, Dbeibeh is visiting Moscow and holding a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. As the press service of the Russian Cabinet of Ministers earlier reported, the two heads of government will discuss topical issues of Russian-Libyan trade and economic cooperation, including prospects for cooperation in the energy, transport and agricultural sectors.
