FSB detains IS financier who recruited and transported Russians to Syria

The FSB detained in Tatarstan a member of the international terrorist organization Islamic State banned in the Russian Federation, who was engaged in its financing, as well as recruiting and transporting Russians and CIS citizens to Syria, the FSB's Public Relations Center (PRC) reports.


"The FSB, in cooperation with the Federal service for financial monitoring of Russia on the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan suppressed the activity of the participant of the international terrorist organization "Islamic state" involved in the organization of cross-border channel resource support to terrorist organizations, - reported in PRC. "On the instructions of IS emissaries, this person also recruited and transported citizens of Russia and CIS countries to the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic."


The FSB established criminal connections of the detainee in Tatarstan, Dagestan and the Tyumen region. "Schemes for financing IS members were revealed and documented, as well as routes of secret movement of militants to Syria," the report reads.


The investigative Department of the FSB of Russia opened a criminal case under articles 205.1 ("Assistance to terrorist activities"), 205.5 ("Participation in the activities of a terrorist organization") Criminal Code of the RF. During the searches conducted at the places of residence of the detainee, communication tools, payment instruments and other materials confirming his criminal activity were seized. Operational search activities and investigative actions are continuing.
