The Federal security service (FSB) has suppressed the activities of the Hizb ut-Tahrir international terrorist organization banned in Russia in the Moscow region, detaining two of its leaders and six active participants, the Center for public relations (CPR) of Russia's Federal security service (FSB) told TASS on Monday.

"The Federal security service, in cooperation with units of the Interior ministry and Rosgvardia in Moscow and the Moscow region, has suppressed the activities of a cell of the international terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami (banned in Russia by the Russian Supreme court in 2003). Two leaders and six active participants were detained," reported the CPR.

It was established that members of the terrorist structure "carried out anti-constitutional activities based on the doctrine of creation of a so-called global caliphate, destruction of secular institutions and aimed at overthrowing the current authorities by force".

The FSB reported that during the meetings, participants of the cell distributed terrorist ideology among the inhabitants of the Moscow region using conspiracy measures. A significant amount of Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami propaganda materials, communications equipment and electronic media used in the conduct of terrorist activities was seized from them. The investigating authorities opened a criminal case.
