Ambassador to Russia says Moscow has shielded Syria from disruptions in Russian exports

04 July 2022

Moscow has provided Damascus with regular exports of Russian goods, without any disruption, supplies will be regular. Riyad Haddad, Syria's ambassador to Russia, said this in an interview with TASS.

Answering a question about how Moscow and Damascus are solving the problem of food supplies, particularly wheat, amid the situation in Ukraine, drought and disruption of supply chains, the head of the Syrian diplomatic mission noted Russia's efforts to implement bilateral agreements.

"I would like to note that the Russian Federation has fenced off Syria from recent measures to prevent the export of some Russian goods as a result of sanctions by Western countries. Therefore, deliveries from Russia to Syria continue and will be carried out regularly in accordance with the agreements between the two countries. This once again confirms that Russia is on the side of Syria and supports the Syrian people in the fight against the blockade imposed by the West against Damascus," he said.

At the same time, the ambassador stressed that the economic crisis, which "at the moment the world is experiencing due to the insane policy of the West to impose sanctions everywhere," should have affected the already tense economic situation in Syria, which was a consequence of the civil war. "Of course, the Syrian government, in cooperation with Russia and other friendly countries, is trying to overcome the consequences of this crisis, solve important social problems and meet the needs of the Syrian people," he added.
