On September 9, the Russian training sailing ship "Kruzenshtern," which had arrived on a friendly visit at the Moroccan port of Agadir, hosted discussions on the future of logistical support for the Russian fishing fleet.
A working meeting took place aboard the sailing vessel with Hasan Baish, the Director of the Port of Agadir, Captain Mikhail Yeremchenko of the "Kruzenshtern," and Mikhail Tarasov, head of the Federal Agency for Fishery (Rosrybolovstvo) representative office in Morocco.
During the meeting, the parties emphasized the fruitful development of Russian-Moroccan cooperation in the fisheries sector under the existing agreement (signed in 2020) between the governments of Russia and Morocco concerning marine fisheries, Tarasov told TASS. According to him, “The Russian representatives expressed their gratitude to the Agadir port authorities for their assistance in logistical support operations for the Russian fishing fleet operating in the Atlantic fishing zone of the Kingdom of Morocco.”
In response, Baish informed the Russian delegation about “key ongoing projects and programs aimed at expanding the range of services provided at the Port of Agadir for the repair and modernization of large-tonnage vessels.”
Tarasov explained that “if the necessary port infrastructure is developed in Agadir, the Russian fishing fleet could become one of the main clients for ship repair services, thereby elevating Russian-Moroccan cooperation in fisheries to a new level.”
“Agadir is a crucial link in the supply chain for African countries for fish products caught by Russian vessels in the Atlantic fishing zone of the Kingdom of Morocco. Agadir handles about a quarter of all operations related to unloading fish products caught by Russian vessels in this zone. Moreover, from the perspective of vessel supply, Agadir is an optimal hub for the Russian fishing fleet,” Tarasov added.
