Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will lead the Qatari delegation at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in 2021. Qatar's ambassador to Moscow, Ahmed bin Nasser Al Thani, said this in an interview published Tuesday in the Kommersant newspaper.
"As for plans, as you know, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will be held in early June, where Qatar will participate as a guest of honor. The Qatari delegation will be led personally by His Highness Sheikh Tamim. The purpose of our participation in the forum is to raise the level of investment between our countries, " said the ambassador.
According to the head of the diplomatic mission, the emir's presence gives the plans for Qatari participation "additional strength." "He is coming at the head of a very large delegation, which will include ministers and major businessmen. And there are concrete agreements, concrete plans," the diplomat pointed out. - Just last month, Qatar's QIA Sovereign Fund participated in the IPO of Fix Price, Russia's largest chain of fixed-price stores. It is an investment of $150 million.
The ambassador noted that the final list of persons in the Qatari delegation is being worked out and will be sent to the Russian side soon. "The delegation will definitely include Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Minister of Trade and Industry Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, there will be a sports block in connection with preparations for the World Cup, as well as representatives of Qatar Petroleum and many other major companies," he added.
St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will take place on June 2-5 and will be held in person in compliance with all epidemiological safety measures. The topic of the forum this year is "Together again. Economy of the new reality". More than a hundred discussions are planned in the architecture of the business program.
