Breeders from Stavropol region exported poultry meat to Bahrain and Qatar for the first time in 2022. The volume of exports in monetary terms has increased by 75% this year, the regional committee for food and processing industry, trade and licensing told reporters.
"This year we shipped 3% more poultry to foreign markets compared to the same period last year - 47.4 thousand tons and in monetary terms - 75% more, for $123 million. The largest importers of chicken are Saudi Arabia, China, the United Arab Emirates. For the first time this year, supplies to Bahrain and Qatar were carried out", says the report.
According to the committee, in 2022, for the first time poultry meat from Stavropol region was also sent to some African countries: Mozambique, Kenya, Angola, Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Equatorial Guinea. In general, producers supply products to almost one-third of the countries of the world.
In the first half of 2022 the region produced 172 thousand tons of poultry meat. The actual production in Stavropol region exceeds twice the recommended norms of consumption. This allows not only to meet the needs of the region's population, but also to increase exports. Exporters in the region receive state support under the regional project "Export of agricultural products".
"Since chicken meat, compared to other types of meat, is cheaper and faster to reproduce, the demand for this type of affordable protein in the world has recently increased. Experts note that the consumption of poultry meat in the world will increase by almost 50% in the next ten years. Increasing the share of poultry meat production and export - is a long-term trend", the words of the head of the committee Denis Polubin are cited in the report.
Poultry meat processing will be expanded in Stavropol in the near future. There are several investment projects with more than 2 billion rubles investments in the region. The investors intend to create about 400 jobs. Processing capacity will grow by more than 120 thousand tons a year.
