Nikolai Shulginov, Minister of Energy of Russia, and Daler Juma, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan, during their meeting in Moscow discussed cooperation of the countries in the context of development of the industry. This was reported on Friday by the press service of the Ministry of Energy of the republic.
"During the meeting the ministers discussed the development of the electric power industry, including the activities of the joint venture JSC "Sangtuda HPP-1," the message said. According to the Ministry of Energy, the interlocutors considered creation of conditions for oil and gas production in Tajikistan, import of oil and gas products from Russia to the republic, as well as further cooperation.
The "Sangtuda HPP-1" is a joint Russian-Tajik venture established in 2005. In its capital 75% of shares are owned by Russia and 25% by Tajikistan. The 670 MW hydropower station itself is located on the Vakhsh River in Khatlon province; it generates up to 12% of the total volume of electricity generation in Tajikistan and is one of the three largest hydropower stations in the country.
