Indonesian President Expresses Concern Over Increasing Oil Prices Amid Middle East Conflict

24 October 2023

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has expressed concerns about the increase in oil prices due to the escalating situation in the Middle East, as reported by the Detik portal.

As per the information available, the Indonesian leader highlighted that the intensifying confrontation between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas has coincided with the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which has yet to be resolved. Widodo is concerned that the Middle East conflict could exert a significant influence on the global energy industry.

"This isn't merely a conflict. If it extends to Lebanon, Syria, Iran, it will exacerbate the economic challenges across all nations due to the inevitable surge in oil prices," the portal reported, quoting the Indonesian president.

He added, "Just yesterday, I observed that the price of Brent Crude oil remains at $89 per barrel. Nevertheless, it has the potential to climb higher, possibly even reaching $150 per barrel."
