Azerbaijan sent the first train to Russia within the framework of the "Agroexpress" project, Deputy Prime Minister of the republic Shahin Mustafayev said on Thursday.

"This year at the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission we agreed on quotas and dynamics of agricultural products supply to the Russian market. In this sense, properly built logistics is important. I would like to mention sending of the first train within "Agroexpress" project," Deputy Prime Minister said speaking at the conference "The current state and prospects of Russian-Azerbaijani economic relations in the context of integration processes".

According to him, Azerbaijan attaches great importance to this important project. "We will try to work even faster in this direction. Undoubtedly, this will help ensure the speed and quality of product delivery [to the Russian market]," Mustafayev added.

He said that in 2020, food turnover between the two countries reached $1.3 billion, a 6 percent increase from a year earlier. "Azerbaijan is among the ten largest importers of agricultural products of Russia. The volume of imports of agricultural products from Russia in 2020 increased by 12%," the deputy prime minister said. At the same time, he noted, this year there has been a significant increase in the supply of agricultural products from Azerbaijan to the Russian market. Over the past 10 months $450 million worth of products have been supplied, Mustafayev said. He added that the increase in the volume of supplies was agreed and ordered by the presidents of the two countries back in 2014.
