Kazakh Prime Minister and Russian Deputy Prime Ministers discussed cooperation in the energy sector

Kazakh Prime Minister Askar Mamin during a meeting in Nur-Sultan with a Russian delegation headed by Russian Deputy Prime Ministers Alexander Novak and Alexei Overchuk discussed cooperation in the fuel and energy sector. This was reported on Monday by the press service of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.


"The parties discussed topical issues of cooperation in the fuel and energy sector - in the field of subsoil use, oil and gas, electricity. Special attention is paid to the prospects of cooperation in the field of hydrogen energy, participation of Russian companies in the gasification of the northern and eastern regions of Kazakhstan," stated in the message.


As specified in the press service, the parties "considered the supply of diesel fuel from Russia to Kazakhstan," the transit of Russian hydrocarbons through Kazakhstan. Progress of joint projects in the field of oil and gas chemistry: production of polypropylene, polyethylene, butadiene and its derivatives was discussed. "JSC "Samruk - Kazyna" and JSC "NC "KazMunayGas" together with PAO "Sibur Holding" on the basis of an integrated gas chemical complex in Atyrau in early 2022 plan to open a joint venture for the production of polypropylene with a capacity of 500 thousand tons per year. The parties are considering a joint construction project of a polyethylene plant with an annual capacity of 1.25 million tons," the press service added.


In addition, KazMunayGas and Tatneft are implementing a joint project for the production of butadiene rubbers, used in the modification of bitumen, the production of adhesives, rubber and environmentally friendly tires. The term of the project is 2021-2025, the production capacity is 186 thousand tons of butadiene rubbers and 170 thousand tons of isobutane per year.
"The parties confirmed the readiness for further constructive negotiations on all directions of strategic cooperation both in bilateral and multilateral formats",  was said in the report.
