Minister of energy of Kazakhstan Magzum Mirzagaliyev met in St. Petersburg with Alexey Miller, chairman of the board of Gazprom, the parties agreed to resume negotiations on the development of oil, gas and condensate field Khvalynskoye and gas condensate field Imashevskoye. This was reported on Thursday by the press service of the Ministry of Energy of the republic.

"During the meeting held in St. Petersburg the parties considered the main directions of cooperation in gas sphere, including gas processing. The participants also discussed the stability of acceptance of Karachaganak gas by Orenburg GPP, gasification of East Kazakhstan and North Kazakhstan regions and other issues. In addition, at the meeting an agreement was reached to resume negotiations on the development of fields Khvalynskoye and Imashevskoye," stated in the message.

As the minister of energy of Kazakhstan noted, the republic has set a course for the active development of oil and gas fields with a focus on gas processing. "For this purpose we have developed a number of fiscal and regulatory preferences stimulating exploration and production of hydrocarbons. In recent years, domestic consumption of gas has increased sharply and will grow steadily, taking into account the transition from coal to gas, as well as the development of gas chemistry," said Mirzagaliyev.

In turn, Miller said that Gazprom is interested in the projects and is ready to get back to discussing the conditions of participation in them. The parties noted the demand for these projects, as well as their economic efficiency, including expansion of export opportunities for both countries.

The Imashevskoye field is located on the border of Kazakhstan (Atyrau region) and Russia (Astrakhan region). Its development is regulated by a protocol of the Russian-Kazakh intergovernmental agreement signed in 2013. The Khvalynskoye field is located in the northern part of the Caspian Sea, 260 km from Astrakhan. In 2005 Lukoil and Kazmunaigas signed the founding documents of the joint venture Caspian oil and gas company LLC for development of the Khvalynskoye field, as well as transportation and sale of hydrocarbons and refined products.
