Lukoil discusses changes in working conditions in Iraq at the new Yamama formation

03 June 2021

Lukoil is asking Iraq to change the terms of work at the new Yamama formation of the West Qurna-2 field and to make it a separate project, President and co-owner of the company Vagit Alekperov told reporters on the sidelines of the SPIEF.

"We are negotiating with the delegation of Iraq, they are here. As you know, we launched the Yamama project, this layer requires additional research. The Iraqi side has acknowledged that it needs time to do some additional research on it. We are discussing separating this project into a separate project, unrelated to the Mishrif formation," he said. The difficulty in developing the formation is that it contains hydrogen sulfide. "We would like the Yamama formation to work under supplementary agreements, where the hydrogen sulfide share would be taken into account", said the head of Lukoil.
