Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin expects mutual trade between Russia and Tajikistan to recover after a decline due to the pandemic.
"Russia is one of Tajikistan's leading foreign trade partners. Unfortunately, the coronavirus has made a difference in our trade and economic activities. Last year, the trade turnover between our countries decreased by 15%. But we are counting on our joint efforts to restore the dynamics. I hope that the Intergovernmental Commission headed by Vice Prime Minister A. Overchuk will work well so that we could not only return but even exceed the previous indicators of our mutual trade," Mishustin said on Thursday at the meeting with Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda on the sidelines of the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Kazan. The words of the head of the Russian Cabinet of Ministers are quoted on the website of the Russian government.
Mishustin stressed that Dushanbe has traditionally been Moscow's strategic partner and ally in Central Asia. "Our relations have always been based on the principles of friendship, mutual respect and brotherhood. We are sincerely interested in taking them to a new level, filling them with new promising joint projects," the Russian Prime Minister said, noting major projects of the two countries in the energy, industry, agro-industrial complex. According to him, the joint fight against coronavirus is also a priority for the government.
Mishustin sent warm greetings and best wishes to Tajik President Emomali Rahmon from Russian President Vladimir Putin and himself, and congratulated him on the holy month of Ramadan.
