Mishustin to negotiate with head of Kazakhstan government

22 March 2021

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin will hold talks with Kazakh Prime Minister Askar Mamin in Moscow on Monday. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Cabinet of Ministers.

"The heads of government will consider topical issues of Russian-Kazakh trade and economic cooperation and interaction in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), as well as other topics of mutual interest," the statement said.

Last time Mishustin and Mamin met in early February in Alma-Ata, where they participated in a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and the Digital Almaty 2021 forum. Since then, the prime ministers of Russia and Kazakhstan have spoken by telephone three times, most recently on March 17. As the press-service of the Russian Cabinet of Ministers informed, during these conversations the topical issues of bilateral cooperation and integration interaction in the EEU were discussed.

In addition, during the conversation of the prime ministers on February 16, special attention was paid, in particular, to joint measures to combat the spread of coronavirus. On February 1, Kazakhstan began vaccinating the population against coronavirus infection using the Sputnik V vaccine produced in Russia. At the end of February, shipments of the same Russian drug, but produced at the Karaganda pharmaceutical complex, began in the regions of the country.

Russia is one of the main trade partners of Kazakhstan. According to the Kazakhstani side, the trade turnover between the two countries exceeded $18 billion in 2020. At the previous meeting with Mishustin, Mamin noted that despite the pandemic, the indicators of bilateral trade managed to keep almost at the level of 2019, and expressed confidence that the strategic cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan in all directions will continue in 2021.

This year Kazakhstan is chairing the Eurasian Economic Union, the members of which, apart from this republic and Russia, are also Armenia, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan. As previously stated President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the main priorities of the republic's presidency in the EEU will be the full implementation of the agreement on the union, elimination of barriers, development of mutually beneficial cooperative and international cooperation.
