Novak: Russia and Iran may have record trade by the end of 2022

Russia and Iran managed to increase the trade turnover between the two countries by 36.4% to $3.3 billion in January-August. The countries may reach a record in the volume of mutual trade in 2022, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said at a meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.


"Despite the external sanctions pressure, trade and economic cooperation between our countries continues to show steady growth. The volume of trade between our countries is growing steadily. According to the results of the eight months of this year, the trade turnover has added 36.4%, to $3.3 billion. I think that if the positive dynamics is maintained, we will reach the record volumes," he added.


Novak stressed that duty-free trade for certain types of goods under temporary agreements, which has been implemented between the countries for the last three years, contributed to doubling of the turnover.


According to the Russian Federal Customs Service, Russia's mutual trade with Iran increased 81.4% to $4 billion in 2021 compared to 2020.


The countries have repeatedly declared that they intend to strengthen economic cooperation. In order to fix the already achieved agreements and announce new ones. The 16th meeting of the Russian-Iranian commission on trade and economic cooperation, this time in Grozny, is held on November 1. The Russian side is represented by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, and the Iranian side by Oil Minister Javad Oji.
