Prime ministers of Russia and Kazakhstan discussed strengthening transit potential of two countries

Kazakh prime minister Askar Mamin at a meeting in Moscow with Russian prime minister Mikhail Mishustin discussed strengthening the transit potential of the two states, the press service of the cabinet of ministers of the republic reported on Tuesday.


"At the RF Government coordination center, Askar Mamin and Mikhail Mishustin discussed the issues of advanced development of transport infrastructure, strengthening of the transit potential of the two countries and regional transport interconnection, including within the "Western Europe - Western China", "North - South" corridors and other routes within the Eurasian Economic Union," the message reads.


The heads of the governments discussed the prospects of increasing cooperation in trade and economic, financial and investment, transit and transport, agricultural, oil and gas, energy and space spheres as well as projects within the framework of industrial cooperation. "They considered topical issues of cooperation in the format of the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as joint measures to combat the spread of COVID-19 and leveling the impact of the pandemic on the economies of the two countries," the press service clarified.


Mamin noted the high dynamics of development of trade and economic relations and investment cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia against the background of the active recovery of the national economies of the two countries. "For 8 months of the current year, trade turnover between the countries increased by 27% to $14.7 billion. By the end of 2021, the parties intend to bring this figure to $20 billion," the report said.


According to the department, over 10 thousand enterprises with Russian capital are operating in Kazakhstan, which is 36.1% of the total number of enterprises with foreign participation. In the sphere of industrial cooperation, eight joint large projects to the sum of $1.7 billion are realized.
