Russia may build a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan and provide other support to the republic in this area, Russian president Vladimir Putin said Thursday.
"Russia offers our partners, including from Kazakhstan, assistance and support in the construction and operation of nuclear power plants, if you take such decisions [to build them]," the Russian president said, speaking at the Forum of interregional cooperation between the two countries.
"In particular, we could talk about building a nuclear power plant of Russian design in the republic," Putin said, adding that he also meant creating an entire industry and training personnel. "The impact of nuclear power plants on air pollution is negligible, Russian specialists are achieving a consistent reduction of the load on the atmosphere <...>," the Russian leader stressed.
In 2019, the Russian president at a meeting with Kazakh president Kassym-Jomart Tokayev suggested expanding cooperation between Moscow and Nur-Sultan in the energy sector and building a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan using Russian technology. On September 1 of this year, during a message to the people of Kazakhstan, Tokayev instructed to study the possibility of developing safe nuclear power in the republic within a year.
