Russia and Kazakhstan discuss the possibility of gas supplies to the east of the country

Russian deputy prime minister Alexander Novak and Kazakhstan's energy minister Magzum Mirzagaliyev discussed the possibility of gas supplies to the east of Kazakhstan, the Russian government website reported after the meeting.


"The possibility of organizing natural gas supplies from the border territories of the Russian Federation for the eastern part of Kazakhstan was discussed," the report says.


The Kazakhstani authorities have previously worked with the Russian party on the construction of a gas pipeline from Barnaul to Ust-Kamenogorsk in order to supply gas to the East Kazakhstan region, which would supply gas to 2.1 million people from this region. The volume of gas consumption was estimated at 2.3 billion cubic meters per year.


Diesel fuel supplies


Mirzagaliyev discussed supplies of Russian diesel fuel to Kazakhstan during a meeting with Novak, the press service of Kazakhstan's energy ministry said.


"The parties considered issues in the oil, petrochemical, gas and subsoil sectors. In addition, they discussed the issue of further supplies of Russian diesel fuel to Kazakhstan, which began this month and allowed to quickly stabilize the situation on the domestic market and prevent the negative consequences of fuel shortages," said in the message.


Mirzagaliyev also raised the issue of gasification of North and East Kazakhstan regions and offered the Russian side to participate in the supply of gas on mutually acceptable terms. "Russian deputy prime minister Alexander Novak stressed that the Russian government is ready to intensify the negotiation process on this issue, the interested bodies and companies will be given appropriate instructions," the press service specified.


Besides the participants of the meeting agreed to consider the possibility of creation of a joint investment project of creation of a network of the filling stations of liquefied natural gas along the transit route from Russia to China. The parties noted that this direction has a high potential and will allow to meet the growing needs of industrial enterprises of Kazakhstan and transit transport in fuel.
