Russian investments in the economy of Tajikistan over the past 13 years amounted to more than $ 1.6 billion, of which $ 900 million - direct investments. This was reported on Wednesday in a conversation with a correspondent of TASS by the head of the Russian trade mission in Tajikistan Yevgeny Korenkov.

"For several years, Russia has kept the leading position in terms of investments coming into Tajikistan's economy and is in second place after China. The total volume of accumulated investments from Russia is more than $1.6 billion over the last 13 years, of which direct investments exceeded $900 million," Korenkov said.

He noted such projects and companies as the Sangtuda-1 hydropower plant, Gazprom Neft Tajikistan and Megafon Tajikistan. "In the total volume of investments in Tajikistan, Russian investments account for more than 16%," the interlocutor said, specifying the areas of investment - construction, communications, exploration and mining, energy and others.

According to his data, more than 300 companies of the Russian Federation work in the market of Tajikistan, 10-15 companies out of which have "Russian roots". As an example, he cited the X-fit sports complex, which was built in Dushanbe seven years ago and is the largest in Central Asia, and the chain of coffee shops and restaurants Shokoladnitsa, IL Patio and Yakitoriya, working under franchises.

Korenkov pointed to the active work of Tajikistan's relevant government agencies in developing investment support and protection instruments.

"Investment agreements are being modernized, where guarantees and benefits are spelled out, the tax services of Russia and Tajikistan are working very actively to protect investments, fiscal policy, as well as the customs authorities," he added.
