UN Development Program (UNDP) projects on community strengthening are implemented in Tajikistan with the financial support of Russia, which amounts to $3.85 million, Shamil Shamsutdinov, Minister Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Tajikistan, said at the meeting of the UNDP Project Steering Committee on Friday.
"In the spirit of strategic partnership and alliance that bind Russia and Tajikistan, we are implementing two major projects here - "Strengthening Communities in Khatlon Region and Rasht Valley of Tajikistan" and "Assistance in Eliminating the Economic Impact of COVID-19 by improving living conditions, employment opportunities and regional cooperation in the Fergana Valley," said the diplomat.
According to him, the total financing of Russia for these initiatives amounts to $3.85 million. The diplomat said that 120 people have already been employed within the above projects, the capacity of 175 farms has been strengthened, development plans for Sangvor, Temurmalik, Vose and Khovaling regions for 2021-2025 have been worked out. "The Russian Federation provides not only financial support, but also advanced expert approaches to regional socio-economic development and innovation in these projects," Shamsutdinov stressed.
Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan Abdurahmon Abdurahmonzoda, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Tajikistan Christophoros Politis, employees of relevant agencies participated in the meeting. It was noted that the project launched in January 2021 to eliminate the effects of coronavirus infection is aimed at improving living conditions and promoting cross-border trade in the Fergana Valley of Tajikistan, it is designed for the period until June 2023.
