Serbia intends to receive up to 40% of gas from Azerbaijan

Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia Zorana Mihajlovic said that the republic intends to buy up to 40% of gas in Azerbaijan in 2023. The announcement was made on Tuesday, according to a press release from the ministry.

According to Mihajlovic, Russia annually supplies 2.2 billion cubic meters of gas to Serbia, while the gas consumption of the Balkan Republic is about 3 billion cubic meters per year. Next year, Serbia intends to receive part of its gas from Azerbaijan.

"The difference will be provided partly from the gas storage in Hungary, partly from the Banatski Dvor gas storage, and next year we will be able to receive about 40% of gas through the Nis - Dimitrovgrad gas pipeline. We expect that this will be, first of all, Azerbaijani gas, and talks are already underway to reserve capacities when the construction of that pipeline is completed," the minister said.

On May 29, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that during phone talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he had agreed on the main issues of the gas contract. According to him, the contract will be signed for three years and the gas price will be calculated according to the oil formula, which means from $310 to $408 per 1,000 cubic meters. Vucic said that this price is the best in Europe, but the issue of buying another 800 million cubic meters of gas remained open.
