Source: Ankara against the US sanctions against the "Turkish stream"

Turkey closely cooperates with Russia in the energy sector, and in this regard, the Republic opposes unilateral sanctions of the United States, a diplomatic source in Ankara, commented on the US intention to include Nord Stream-2 and Turkish stream in the number of projects subject to restrictions in accordance with the law "on Countering America's Adversaries Through sanctions" (CAATSA).

"Turkey has always stated that it opposes unilateral sanctions. We have very close relations with Russia in the energy sector. Turkish stream is a project that was created and implemented in accordance with the needs and requirements of the countries of the region. Therefore, we do not consider it right that [the US] interferes in the affairs of the relevant countries in this way," the source said.

US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo on Wednesday said that the agency he heads would include Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream among the projects subject to restrictions under the law "On Countering America's Adversaries through Sanctions" (CAATSA).

The capacity of the 930 km long Turkish Stream gas pipeline is 31.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The first line with a capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters of gas per year is intended for consumers in Turkey, the second-for the countries of southern and South-Eastern Europe.

The pipeline runs along the bottom of the Black Sea from Russia to the coast of Turkey. Then there is a land transit route to the border with neighboring countries, from where gas is already exported to Greece, Bulgaria, and North Macedonia. In the future (after the completion of the entire infrastructure), gas will go to Serbia and Hungary.
