The third session of the Russia-Malaysia Joint Commission on Economic, Scientific-Technical, and Cultural Cooperation will take place in St. Petersburg on October 8-9, according to the city’s Committee for External Relations.
This meeting will provide a platform for in-depth discussions on implementing the initiatives set during the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in September 2024 at the Eastern Economic Forum, where the Malaysian leader was a guest of honor.
The first day of the session will be dedicated to expert consultations, with the main events scheduled for October 9. The commission will be chaired by Russian Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov and Malaysian Minister of Higher Education Mohamed Khaled Nordin. The primary venue for the meeting will be the Saint Petersburg Mining University, named after Empress Catherine II.
Key topics include the launch of direct flights between Russia and Malaysia and the completion of the accreditation process for Russian halal producers to begin exporting to Malaysia. Discussions will also cover the ongoing negotiations on a mutual visa-free regime for Russian and Malaysian citizens, as well as prospects for signing a memorandum of cooperation in tourism. Additionally, the commission will address the development of ties in science and education, alongside collaboration in the field of innovation.
The previous session of the commission took place on November 9, 2023, in Kuala Lumpur.
