A federal center for training and research in Islamic finance is set to be established at Kazan Federal University, according to Tatarstan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Midhat Shagiakhmetov.
He announced that active efforts are underway to create the center with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, involving international partners. Shagiakhmetov expressed optimism that the center would soon operate at an appropriate level, providing vital resources for the field.
The minister also noted that educational programs for training specialists in Islamic banking have already been developed at several educational institutions in Tatarstan. Over 200 students are currently enrolled in these programs.
Additionally, around 100 government employees have undergone training in partnership finance this year, with another group set to begin a new training cycle in October.
The experiment in implementing partnership (Islamic) finance began on September 1, 2023, in Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Dagestan, and Chechnya. Islamic banking operates according to Islamic law, focusing on ethical and interest-free financial practices.
