01 August

Tatarstan has announced a nearly 40% increase in the export of halal products in the first half of 2024, reaching $8 million. This represents a 39% rise compared to the same period in 2023, according to Rustem Gainullov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan, in comments to TASS.

"For the first six months of 2024, halal product exports totaled $8 million, with a 39% increase over the previous year, and a target of $16 million for the full year," Gainullov said, adding that over 20 companies in the republic are involved in exporting these products.

The main destinations for Tatarstan’s halal products are countries within the Customs Union, the Persian Gulf, and North Africa. Efforts are also underway to enter new markets. "We are working on expanding into Malaysia, Oman, Jordan, and Bahrain, focusing on meeting the specific international halal certification requirements recognized in these countries," Gainullov said.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Tatarstan specified that dairy and confectionery products are the most commonly exported halal items.

In 2023, halal product exports from Tatarstan totaled approximately $11 million. For 2024, Tatarstan aims to achieve at least $457.6 million in exports of agro-industrial complex products as part of the national project "International Cooperation and Export." In 2023, exports in this sector amounted to $458.6 million.
