Trade between Ankara and Moscow may reach $50 billion this year, which is $15 billion more than last year. This forecast was made by Turkish Ambassador to Russia Mehmet Samsar on Tuesday on the sidelines of the Innoprom International industrial exhibition.
"Last year [trade turnover] was $35 billion, as far as we know. This year, we expect it could be around $50 billion if energy prices fall a little bit," the diplomat said. He explained these expected figures by the fact that in the first six months of this year the volume of mutual trade between the two countries has already reached $30 billion. According to Samsar, the growth of trade turnover is associated with the increase of cooperation, trade between the two countries and the dynamics of energy prices.
The ambassador also said that Turkey and Russia have "some plans for mutual investments in industry and trade". According to him, a large Turkish delegation of specialists from the mechanical engineering sector plans to visit Moscow in August, and producers of agricultural equipment intend to visit Russian regions. "We are also always waiting for Russian businessmen in Turkey," the diplomat stressed.
