Trade turnover between Russia and Tajikistan in 2021 increased by 45%

27 December 2021

Russia and Tajikistan in 2021 not only recovered last year's losses in trade turnover, but also managed to increase this figure by 45%, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with his Tajikistan counterpart Emomali Rahmon.

"Last year we had some decline with almost all our partners in the trade and economic sphere. Trade turnover [with Tajikistan] fell by more than 15%. But this year the growth is over 45%. That is, we have regained everything we lost last year, and have increased it even more," Putin said.

The Russian leader added that Tajikistan is one of Russia's "faithful, reliable, close allies".

"We are developing relations very actively in all directions, including security issues," Putin stressed.

He expressed regret that the epidemiological situation prevented a face-to-face meeting with Rahmon earlier. "But I am glad to see you in Russia, in St. Petersburg. Tomorrow there will still be an opportunity to talk (within the informal summit of the CIS - TASS) with our colleagues and friends from other EAEC and CSTO countries, to talk before the New Year about what has been done, to look into the next year," Putin added.
