Turkey believes that the International Economic Forum KazanSummit 2021 may become a platform to reach an agreement on the certification and accreditation of halal products and services, Turkish Trade Minister Mehmet Mush said on Thursday at the plenary session of the economic summit "Russia - Islamic World: KazanSummit 2021".
"We have some technical problems. As the halal consumption market is increasing globally every year, there is an urgent need for accreditation and certification of these products," he said. - "I think this summit is a very good platform to discuss and reach agreements on this issue. I would like to emphasize that almost all participants are interested in solving this issue".
The Minister pointed out that in 2019 Muslims spent $2 trillion on halal products, by the end of 2021 the figures will be higher, about $2.9 trillion. "Spending on the development of the halal industry is also going up. However, we still can't agree on the standards of these products, this issue remains on the agenda," Mush pointed out.
He reminded that Turkey has a structure within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to accredit halal products. "Now it includes 40 countries, with Russia as an observer. We hope that within the framework of this organization we will be able to unite many countries of the Islamic world and on its basis create a structure for standardization and known norms, according to which we will accredit halal products," the Minister added.
The XII International Economic Summit "Russia - Islamic world: KazanSummit 2021" will last until July 30. Representatives of 61 countries and 38 regions of Russia are taking part. The summit aims to develop cooperation and maintain a dialogue between Russia and the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the economic, political and cultural spheres.
