Turkey reported that exports to Russia almost halved due to events in Ukraine

24 March 2022

Turkey's exports to Russia have almost halved due to the events in Ukraine, Turkish Central Bank Governor Sahap Kavcioglu said Thursday.

"Because of the regional conflict, exports to Russia have almost halved, exports to Ukraine are zero. We expect tourism revenues to reach pre-pandemic levels in 2022," T24 television channel quoted him as saying.

Kavcioglu noted that the Turkish government "carefully monitors the risks associated with energy prices".

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help from the leaders of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow's plans did not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories. After that, the United States, the EU, the United Kingdom, and a number of other states announced that they were imposing sanctions against Russian individuals and legal entities.
