The Turkish authorities have decided to suspend the export of red meat due to an increase in prices on the domestic market. This is said in a statement from the ministry of commerce, marked "for domestic use," which was made available to TASS on Friday.
The document stresses that a ban on the export of cattle, mutton and goat meat is introduced to ensure the supply of meat in the domestic market and maintain the balance of supply and demand. Meanwhile, the restrictions will not apply to red meat supplies to "Azerbaijan, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (a self-proclaimed state recognized only by Ankara in the international community - TASS) and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic".
Earlier the Turkish State Meat and Milk Institute (ESK) reported an increase in the price of meat and meat products in retail stores, the cost of red meat and meat products increased by an average of 47-48%, and for white meat - 14-15%.
