Turkmen-Russian economic forum was held on Wednesday in the mode of videoconference and the issues of cooperation in the sphere of production and investments were discussed at the forum, the Turkmen state news agency TDH reported.
The VIII Turkmen-Russian economic forum was organized by the Chambers of commerce and industry of the two countries. They discussed joint investment and manufacturing projects, cooperation in the production of construction materials, textiles, agriculture, logistics, tourism and digital technologies. The agreements reached earlier in the summit talks between Turkmen president Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and Russian president Vladimir Putin as well as the meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian commission on economic cooperation were an important incentive for the forum, TDH reports.
On the Russian side, the forum was attended by representatives of ministries, government agencies, banking and financial institutions, Chambers of commerce and industry from more than 50 regions and cities of Russia, major companies in the field of trade, industry, textiles, construction, electronic information technology, engineering, logistics. Turkmenistan was represented by heads and specialists of line ministries and departments, the Chamber of commerce and industry, the Union of industrialists and entrepreneurs, enterprises and companies producing import-substituting and export-oriented products.
The forum participants noted the successful implementation of joint projects and the presence of a number of leading Russian companies in the Turkmen market that are interested in further building business contacts. It was stressed that one of the priorities of the foreign policy strategy of Turkmenistan is to intensify bilateral relations with the regions and major industrial centers of Russia.
The forum discussed conditions and opportunities for expansion of export and investment potential, investment projects and prospects for economic cooperation between the two countries. Representatives of major companies and enterprises of the two countries made presentations of their export potential and import requirements. In this regard, the sides reviewed the activities of the commodity and raw materials exchange of Turkmenistan as a platform to regulate export-import transactions.
The use of Turkmenbashi International port as a logistics center in the Caspian Sea region and the opportunities for investment in shipbuilding were discussed separately. Potential Russian partners were told about the conditions created in Turkmenistan for the development of private business, organization of import-substituting production. Following the VIII Turkmen-Russian economic forum a number of documents were signed, the agency reports.
