The events in Washington have shown that American democracy has limped on both legs and the US has lost the right to impose a course on other countries, Konstantin Kosachev, the Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, said.
"The events in Washington and its ilk have several layers of reasons for taking people to the streets... Deeper there are the never-explained zigzags in the vote count on November 3 and now, in Georgia. The losing side has more than enough reasons to accuse the winners of fraud this time, American democracy has obviously limped on both legs," the parliamentarian wrote on Facebook.
"The feast of democracy is over. It is, alas, really the bottom, I say this without a shadow of gloating. America no longer sets the course, and, therefore, lost all rights to set it. And all the more to impose it on others," he added.
Another reason for what happened Kosachev called the "narcissism, eccentricity and adventurism" of US President Donald Trump.
The Russian senator sees another reason in the "faceless, designed for everyone and anyone" political platforms of Democrats and Republicans. America is split in half, he stated, and equal halves will always challenge any results of the vote not in their favor.
