Moscow is prepared to work in the "quartet" mediation format for the Middle East conflict, comprising Russia, the US, the EU, and the UN. However, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin expressed that reactivating this mechanism hinges on the willingness of Washington to participate.
"We are prepared for any collaborative efforts and discussions. However, it seems apparent that unblocking the mechanism, especially when one of the participating parties, namely the Americans, appears unwilling, may be an impossible task. We have consistently advocated for collective efforts, and we regret the current stance taken by the United States," he remarked.
Vershinin pointed out that "the current escalation of tension in the Middle East, along with the rapid developments in the region, can largely be attributed to the attempts by the United States to monopolize the process of achieving a Middle East settlement and replace the necessary settlement, grounded in established international legal principles, with various deals, including economic ones."
