The process of transition to using national currencies for mutual settlements between Russia and Turkey is at an "advanced stage." Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this on Wednesday at a press conference following talks with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu.
"We have good prospects for the transition to the use of national currencies for mutual settlements. This process is already at an advanced stage. We are also discussing the use of the Russian Mir payment card in Turkey, which will certainly make it possible to restore pre-pandemic tourist flows. Record was almost seven million tourists a year, last year this figure was four million, and it continues to increase", he said.
Lavrov and also Cavusoglu discussed the development of ties in the trade and economic, investment sphere. "The trade turnover between January and March in the first quarter of this year doubled and reached almost $14 billion," he added.
The minister noted that the countries traditionally give priority to the development of cooperation in the energy sector. "The construction of the first Turkish nuclear power plant "Akkuyu" is planned. Cooperation on the use of the TurkStream gas pipeline is developing. All these activities are implemented in accordance with the agreements of the presidents and are on schedule," he said.
