28 November 2023

The Treaty of Good Neighborliness and Alliance in the XXI century has played a significant role in shaping a model of trusting relations between Russia and Kazakhstan. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov provided this assessment in his message to the participants of a round table held in Moscow to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the treaty, as reported by the press service of Kazakhstan's MFA.

"The head of Russian diplomacy underscored that the consistent implementation of the document has enabled the establishment of a model of trusting allied relations that align with the interests of both countries and the objectives of maintaining international and regional security and stability," stated the Kazakh foreign ministry.

Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu highlighted that the treaty has facilitated the creation of "special conditions" for a significant improvement in bilateral cooperation. The foreign ministry noted that now "Kazakhstan and Russia have built an exemplary model of allied relations."

The Treaty on Good Neighborliness and Allied Relations in the XXI century was signed on November 11, 2013, by Russian President Vladimir Putin and former Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev following the tenth-anniversary Forum of Regions of the two countries in Yekaterinburg. The document enshrines the principles of a long-term strategic partnership between Russia and Kazakhstan.
